Upgrading my wordpress automatically was no problem until yesterday
Since minutes I can only see this message on screen:
… 🔗
briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute … 🔗
thanks to http://www.wendycholbi.com/2011/05/wordpress-upgrade-fail/
Simply access your site with FTP (filezilla) and remove the .maintenance file in the root wordpress directory.
In the browser, now just enter the URL of your sites’ homepage (not the core upgrade php page!) and the problem should dissapear.
Update on WordPress Maintenance Issue 🔗
It seems like the issue of WordPress updates causing sites to be briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance was a common problem back in 2011. However, as of 2021 to 2024, the situation has improved with more streamlined update processes.
In the past, encountering a message that the site is “briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance” after a WordPress update was a frustrating experience for website owners. The workaround of accessing the site via FTP FileZilla to remove the maintenance file in the root directory was a temporary solution to get the site back online quickly.
Fast forward to 2024, WordPress has made significant advancements in its update process to minimize downtime during maintenance. The platform now allows for smoother background updates, reducing the need for manual intervention and avoiding the need to access files via FTP.
With the latest versions of WordPress, users can now update their websites with more confidence, knowing that the process is more reliable and less likely to result in temporary maintenance messages. The platform has also improved its error handling mechanisms, making it easier to troubleshoot and resolve any update-related issues that may arise.
Overall, the WordPress update experience has evolved for the better in 2024, providing users with a more seamless and efficient process for keeping their websites secure and up to date.
Whether you are a seasoned WordPress user or new to the platform, the advancements in update procedures have made managing your site’s maintenance smoother and more user-friendly. By staying up to date with the latest WordPress releases, you can take advantage of these improvements and ensure that your website remains secure and optimized for performance in 2024 and beyond.
